5 Great Ways to Use Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is one of the most useful substances known to humankind. While it’s a healthy cooking ingredient, it can do so much more. Among its many virtues, coconut oil is an affordable, all-natural addition to your beauty regimen. Here are five of our favorite uses for this versatile oil.

Moisturizer

Coconut oil is rich in lauric acid, a medium chain triglyceride that’s amazing for your skin. It can tackle even the toughest, driest skin, and it’s safe to use all over. It even has anti-fungal and antimicrobial properties to help keep your skin healthy! However, if you’re sensitive or acne prone, we recommend patch testing anything you’ve never used on your skin before just to make sure it’s well tolerated.

Hair Mask

Gently warm coconut oil until it’s completely melted, but still cool enough to touch safely. Coat your hair with a thin layer, concentrating on the ends. You can pin it up or braid it to keep it out of the way while you let it sit for at least an hour. It’s even better if you can leave it in overnight!

Coconut Oil & Brown Sugar Scrub

Mix with brown sugar to create a luscious, frugal body scrub. It’s all-natural and will let you exfoliate and moisturize at the same time. Best of all, it does it without the weird unpronouncable chemicals and irritating fragrances that come in so many commercially available body scrubs. For an all-natural scent, try adding a few drops of natural vanilla extract to the mix.

Lip Balm

Try adding a drop or two of spearmint essential oil for a minty-fresh lip balm. It’s even a natural low-SPF sunscreen to keep your lips soft and silky-smooth.

Makeup Remover

Coconut oil can safely dissolve even the toughest waterproof makeup. Rub it in with your fingers, then wipe off with a soft tissue and voila! Makeup gone.
